African Hall
California Academy of Sciences

Where: San Francisco, California

Our role: Fabrication

The client wanted: The client wanted: To dismantle and replicate all aspects (except the taxidermy) of the Museum’s 1933 classic diorama hall and add four all newly conceived dioramas “of the same style.” Four different background impressionist mural styles were part of the original gallery.

Weldon Exhibits documents the original gallery dioramas in every detail prior to demolition, WE protected and inventories all items to be save and then faithfully fabricated scientifically accurate new improved 1933 dioramas.

93’ Blue Whale Skeleton

Where: San Francisco, California

Our role: Design, Engineering, Fabrication and Installation

The client wanted: To put an iconic Museum object on display in a prominent location using a 60 year old Blue Whale skeleton.

Weldon Exhibits developed drawings, engineering and preservation techniques for the huge blue whale skeleton. WE worked with the Museum Mammalogy Department scientists to create innovative new skeleton positioning and developed the corresponding steel armature. This display is now considered an expression of one of the most current understandings in blue whale skeletal positioning. WE team installed the 4,000LB skeleton in the Museum ceiling 40’ above the exhibit floor.

Our role: Design, Fabrication and Installation

The client wanted: To put an iconic Museum object on display in a prominent location using a 60 year old Blue Whale skeleton.

The client wanted: One year prior to its’ large new museum opening, the Museum wanted to develop exhibitions about who they are, what they do, and a display about the new award winning green building design.

Working closely with Museum staff Weldon Exhibits developed innovative interactive exhibits utilizing available spaces. WE interviewed and recorded 38 scientists and developed easily accessible interactive media. WE developed a youth focused lobby space integrating programs that enable this area to change quarterly.
