Ty Warner Sea Center
Where: Santa Barbara, California
Our role: Exhibition Design through Fabrication and Installation
The client wanted: A team they could work closely with them to develop a new marine based live animal venue for the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum on the Stearns Wharf location suitable to a visiting tourist audience.
The new Ty Warner Sea Center replicates a marine laboratory, with testing equipment, sampling devices and other hands-on opportunities derived from all areas of marine sciences. Santa Barbara Channel research, natural history and conservation efforts are presented in ongoing laboratory and field activities.
Interactive exhibits allow visitors to work like scientists out on the decks, take samples and help lower equipment into the sea below. The interior exhibit space is divided into a series of “lab” areas; visitors can be self-guided explorers or participants in staff-guided activities.
