Where: Stockton, California
The mission of the Children’s Museum of Stockton is to offer an interactive educational environment for children to learn, play, and explore. Weldon Exhibits created the “Destination Space” project which features a local Stockton hero astronaut Jose Hernandez.
The visitor experience starts with “Preparing for Space” and learning about the efforts and huge team required to assist an astronaut. An huge 19-foot-tall shuttle image appears to blast off at the entrance to the ISS gallery, its size and roaring sound drawing visitors from across the museum. Inside the 340-square-foot gallery, visitors explore a variety of hands-on and immersive displays. More than being just a fun place to explore, this exhibit layers in content for older visitors so they can share with their young learners. Interactives about eating in space, working in space and micro-gravity are combined with a finale Beyond Earth media experience viewing earth from the International Space Station.
