Where: Tin Shui Wai, New Territories, Hong Kong
The client wanted:
To showcase two very different wetlands: a Borneo Peat Swamp, and the Arctic Tundra. The Swamp is a living exhibit including live plants and animals. The Tundra tells its tale through dioramas and models. Weldon exhibits provided design details and fabrication for MET Studio Design exhibit design conceptual design.
Our artists traveled to Borneo to record the environment firsthand before utilizing the molds, samples, illustrations, and photos to recreate the experience. WE built a forest of full-sized trees, live crocodile tanks, and featured countless plant varieties. Utilizing creative lighting, the result is a masterfully immersive experience including 50 live birds and 7 live crocodiles.
The cold, pristine north is rendered in dramatic authentic cross section of tundra, communicating to visitors the ways in which animals like reindeer, fox, and owls have adapted to the unique ecosystem of the tundra. Imagining this magical region is complete with “rain” from a glass cloud sculpture.
